What is the Vicente Chamber Orchestra?

The Vicente Chamber Orchestra is a community of passionate musicians, some professional, but most amateurs — who come together to do what they love, and that is to make music together. Although the orchestra began in late 2016 with the simple mission of “making music for music’s sake,” the orchestra’s mission has matured since then.

Today, we still “make music for music’s sake,” however, our goal is more ambitious; our goal is to bring great music to local audiences on the west side of Los Angeles and to provide talented non-professional musicians with a high-quality platform to live out their dreams of making music with other, like-minded musicians. Great amateur musicians have few options to make music with orchestras other than with “community” groups. The Vicente Chamber Orchestra strives to be more than a community group and pushes toward a professional-like an ensemble. Since our formation back in late 2016, the Vicente Chamber Orchestra presents soloists of national and international renown.

As we move forward into the 2019–2020 Season, we will perform twice at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica. Our soloists this year will include violinists Anne Akiko Meyers, Michelle Kim, pianists Wendy Chen, Alessandro Deljavan, cellists Julian Schwarz and Han Bin.

Later this year, the Vicente Chamber Orchestra will introduce a new Artist-in-Residence program that will integrate some of LA’s top, recently graduated, music professionals into the Vicente Chamber Orchestra. These musicians will perform with the orchestra and will work with some of our musicians as coaches and mentors. Recently, the Vicente Chamber Orchestra invited Ben Hong, the Assistant Principal Cellist of the LA Phil, to provide a coaching session to our string section.

I am proud to say that the Vicente Chamber Orchestra is a new, unique, and dynamic chamber orchestra for Los Angeles. We disrupt the traditional model and belief that all great music-making in Los Angeles must be done by elite music professionals. While this model definitely has a place in our great city, we believe that our orchestra delivers tremendous musical value to local audiences AND to our musicians.

We look forward to having you join us as we make music, and we thank you for all your support!
