The Vicente Chamber Orchestra

“Aside from the fact that VCO continues to develop as an ensemble, I think there is a real interpretation here, as well as a bold, risk-taking attitude towards the music that is quite refreshing — Violinist, Robert Matsuda”

In 2016, when I dreamt of creating a new chamber orchestra for Los Angeles, I was told not to waste my time. “Who will listen?” “There is no demand for another classical music organization.”

I am glad I never listened to their advice, because, as it turns out, Los Angeles IS yearning for more classical music and there is a demand for a new chamber orchestra that is rooted in Santa Monica, CA.

Now, beginning its fourth year, the Vicente Chamber Orchestra performs 2–3 concerts per season. This season (2019–2020), which began on October 5, 2019, has gone amazingly well; since our Gala Concert at the Broad Stage featuring violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, pianist Wendy Chen and cellist Julian Schwarz last October, well over 1000+ people have attended our performances in Santa Monica. Our concert on February 22, with violinist Michelle Kim and cellist Han Bin Yoon, was an extraordinary musical and organizational achievement.

The 2019–2020 Season is not over, yet. On May 9, 2020, we perform with the talented students of Opus119 and on June 6, 2020, we head back to the Broad Stage in Santa Monica with world-renown pianist Alessandro Deljavan.

I am very proud of the musicians of the Vicente Chamber Orchestra and what we have accomplished so far. Our local audience can enjoy great classical repertoire without having to venture too far away from home; hear first rate soloists at two fantastic venues; and, mingle with musicians and like minded music lovers after each concert over a glass of wine and a Samosa (or two).

The Vicente Chamber Orchestra consists of musicians from all walks of life (and from all over California!) and we pour everything we have into our love of music. It’s difficult to truly define our orchestra as we are neither professional nor amateur. But, it’s safe to say that the Vicente Chamber Orchestra’s members are ALL very passionate about the music we make!

The Future for the VCO

So, what does the future hold for the Vicente Chamber Orchestra? I am thinking big now. Soon, the Vicente Chamber Orchestra will operate under its own 501c3 status, and we will begin the process of raising funds for the organization that will take it beyond where it is today. I thank you for joining us on this amazing musical journey! See you at the next Vicente Chamber Orchestra event!
